Thy Elderly refers to those individuals aged 60 years of aged and above.

Demographics of Ageing: The Cambodia ageing population has been continuously increasing. Accounting for less than 5.0 per cent during 1950-2000 and 6.0 per cent in 2004 (CIPS 2004), ageing people are projected to increase to 11.7 per cent by 2050 (UNDESA 2002). It has been noted that the female elderly (4.5 per cent outnumbers male elderly (3.9 per cent) (CDHS 2005).

The increase in the elderly population will be accompanied by its progressive ageing. That is, the proportion of the "oldest of the old", defined as those aged 80 years and above, will also increase. With the expected improvements in health care, an increasing proportion of the population will be able to reach 80 years of age and survive thereafter for a longer duration. (Read more)
